Lovely watercolour pieces have been leaving my studio since my last blog! Watercolour is a medium I do enjoy and have a great appreciation for. This is, in part, because its process can be unpredictable. The wonderful mystery of how a few brush strokes creates an awesome effect is also the same mystery which can result in a simple brushstroke having the capacity to undo many hours of work. For me, (who admits to being a little perfectionistic) this can mean a tug-of-war between exploring the new and sticking with what I know to work when it comes to painting in watercolour. And because exploring the new is at the heart of why I paint – for that feeling of playfulness and wonder; feeling timeless; being in a space where the answers are close at hand; I find it both challenging and rewarding. Despite this, I still have a love affair with this wonderful medium and will continue to experiment and uncover new techniques even if it does mean some days I must begin again from scratch. Watercolour is just like that.
