Nothing like a Good Scare

They say that we should banish fear and negativity as much as possible in our everyday lives. In a world where the unknown is regularly banished in favour of what we can understand and control, we run the risk of leaving nothing to the imagination.

I do wonder how we learn when you take out the contrast? One might even argue that it is only through contrast that we are able to discern objects not to mention where the multitude of possibilities are born.  One of my favourite artists, Claude Monet described experimentation as an essential part of success in art. To make a mistake was viewed as creating an unexpected deviation that could lead to something new and beneficial.

I think making a mistake or regularly giving ourselves a little scare, by picking a colour we might normally steer away from, or even detest, or by throwing paint onto a canvas without knowing exactly where it is going, reminds us to lighten up and be open to new possibilities. Whether we deviate from the course deliberately or unexpectedly our creativity blossoms and new, better ways of doing things can present themselves.
